We Keep Breaking Up

by Jon
(FL)

I am involved with someone who has a split personality it seems. On one hand she is kind, generous and loving. On the other she is controlling, manipulative, pushy, unpredictable, moody, arrogant and divisive. It's an 'I can't live with or without you' scenario and we keep breaking up and getting back together. Help!

Answer:

Hey Jon,

I'm sorry for your situation. It's a tough one. You need to decide whether or not it's worth it to continue having a relationship with this person. Does the good outweigh the bad? Only you can judge this.

But, in general, if you're in a situation where you keep breaking up with someone over and over again, it's probably best to just break up for good. you say that "It's an 'I can't live with or without you' scenario". But, that's not really true. You just need to do a better job of moving away from the relationship after breaking up.

So, the next time you break up, sever the relationship entirely. Fill the time you would have spent with her, with something fun. Go out with friends! Eventually you'll find someone that you won't have to break up with every month.

Good Luck...

If you have additional questions down the road, feel free to come back to the CDI relationship doctor for advice.
