Needless to say, I've gotten pretty good at it over the years. If you use your smarts, they'll never know how unprepared you really were.

The Amazon gift card is my old fail safe. With it you can buy any product, ever, in the world, ever. Pretty much.

Here's what I like to do: First, I'll order the gift card in whatever amount is appropriate.

Then, I'll browse through Amazon and pick out two or three items that I think the person might like, all preferably below the amount of the gift card.

The recipient, in the end, will usually wind up getting something they actually want, yet I get to look all thoughtful by suggesting cool gifts that the card will cover.

This can all be done an hour before you need to give
the gift.

The gift that keeps on giving all year round!

Seriously though... This is one of the best last minute gift ideas. The recipient will have no idea you enrolled them ten minutes before actually giving the gift.

I've used Clubs of America with much success. Their selection is suburb, offering:

• Beer of the month


• Wine of the month


• Coffee of the month


• Fruit of the month


• Cigar of the month


• ...and many others

The good thing about a recurring gift is that the recipient will have to love you every month for a year. Take that!

If you need a last minute gift for a philanthropist, consider giving a charity gift card.

JustGive.org allows you to specify a specific charity, or leave it up to the recipient to choose.

This can be a great gift for someone who may have a certain cause they would like to support, but don't have the extra cash to give.

You'll both feel great about helping others. It's almost as if you had planned it all along.

My mother has this thing called "spa day", where she, my sister in law, and their friends go treat themselves to a well deserved (in their minds, at least) day of pampering.

I've never been invited.

But, that's neither here nor there. Once I forgot my mother's birthday, until my dad called to remind me.... the day of. But, fearless as I am, I logged onto SpaFinder.com and got her a massage at a nearby spa.

Her friends can pay for their own!
