How to turn down a nice guy.

How do I turn down a really nice guy I don't like. Not because I like someone else, but just because I don't like him. I don't want to hurt his feelings and I still want to be friends. But I don't want to give him the hope that there's any chance for us in the future.

That is a good question Patty. Letting someone down easy is a delicate art.

Usually a guy won't ask you out unless he has some reason to believe you might say yes. So, the first line of defense is to not flirt too much with a guy you're not attracted to.

But, some guys are persistent, or brave, or just plain stubborn, and will ask you out even though you've shown no interest. If this happens, you just have to let him down as easy as possible. If you think he can handle it, just tell him straight up that you're not interested.

But, sometimes bending the truth a little can help soothe the guy's ego. You could say you're not really looking to get into a relationship right now. You could say you're dating someone else already.

He'll probably understand the reality of the situation no matter what you say, but a little white lie might help him sleep better at night, and it'll give him something he can tell his friends.
