Do you think the doctor will go out with me?

My dad needed surgery, I went with him to his consult, i did not notice the surgeon at all. We returned for his pre-op consult, and i felt someone staring at me while i was filling our paperwork, i looked and it was his surgeon looking and smiling the whole time. For that visit it was the most intense staring and smiling I had ever participated in. Dad had surgery and when I see the surgeon each morning we exchange pleasantries, I leave for coffee one morning and he ends up going too and we had a cup of coffee, at which time he asked me where I work what i do, where I went to school etc, etc., Anyway after the surgery which was a complete success, I send him flowers and he calls to say I did not have to yadayadaya. We discussed the holidays and stuff then I ask him if we can go out, he says, "absolutely I think it would be great fun, but we have to wait until i am finished treating your dad," I say fine. On the next visit its the same only after I go into his office he writes down his cell number.

I am certain he is interested, but what do you think? Do you think I should call him when treatment ends in June, or should I wait for him to call me? I am an attorney, so I am well aware of the ethical improprieties when it comes to this stuff, however, I would have liked for him to call me in between visits, but maybe that's too much.

From what you've told me, it definitely seems like the doctor is interested. As long as he is no longer treating your father (and has no future plans to), I would give him a call and ask him out. In this day and age, women have to initiate almost as often as men do. Don't take it as an offense that he hasn't called. He probably just doesn't want to seem like the Surgeon who is chasing a patient's daughter.

So, you've got nothing to lose, and a lot to gain. Go for it.
