If you live in a city or near a university, there is a good chance you're missing out on some free music. Conservatories and collegiate music departments frequently hold student recitals and professional concerts, all for free! Keep an eye on the performance calenders of these institutions, taking note of the ones that seem the most interesting. These free concerts are often held in beautiful old performance halls. You'll feel like an aristocrat without spending a dime.
Art openings are the perfect cheap date idea. In larger cities, you can almost always find art opening happening somewhere. I prefer open studios where you can walk between multiple gallerys, providing an opportunity to see an array of different types of art. And, if the art stinks, you can at least get your hands on some free wine and enjoy cracking jokes about the art.
If your low on cash, try taking a date to a nearby swimming hole. This can be a very fun cheap date idea. Depending on the swimming hole, you and your date might be the only two people around, making for some ideal romantic seclusion. Most museums are fairly cheap, and many are free at least one day of the week. Check out a museum's website to see if there are any new, exciting exhibits you and your date might be interested in.
